The column T.Y. Hilton is good player, great dad written by Krista Ramsey is about how T.Y. Hilton played a game for his newly born baby girl and stayed up the night before this big game to take care of her. This is showing all the other football players how good it is to be a great husband and father.
The line that I chose to be best written is "You don't have to be a Colts fan. You don't have to be a football fan. You just have to be a fan of good dads and good men."(Krista Ramsey). The impact that this line has on the reader is very strong. It is telling everyone that you don't have to be a fan of a sports team or sports in general, what is the best thing that everyone should be a fan of is of good people who do good things. A lot of the football players now a days think that they don't have to treat their spouses with respect and they abuse them. But T.Y. Hilton is a good role model for this because he is a great dad and he is a great husband also. And that is what people should be fans of about him, not just that he is also a really good football player, but for his good morals. The diction in this line isn't very much shown. There isn't any big confusing words that I don't know what it means, that line is straight to the point and I think that is how it was supposed to be interpreted. For the syntax there is a repetition of the word fan, which is showing emphasis on that word to get it stuck in your head and not forget what she is trying to say. Also the sentences are short cut off sentences that are easy to read.
The writing style of Krista Ramsey is very relatable . Ramsey writes about stories that people in the world are going through and it make the stories more personal and make people want to read them. An example of this is from her column For better vision, kids need time outdoors, "But before the parents claw back the iPhone's, experts say the problem may not lie in the technology itself, but the amount of time spent on it, the environment in which it's used and the activities it's replacing."(Krista Ramsey). With all of the new technology that has been coming out more and more parents are starting to worry about their kids spending to much time on them. Since this topic is so relatable it makes more parents wan to read it for the safety of their kids. Another style of Ramsey is that she has good diction. In the column Super Bowl QBs score points for great style it says " And life itself regains the punctuation that says every days isn't the same as every other..."(Krista Ramsey). The diction in this column is used by the "punctuation" which in this case has two different meanings. It can mean a mark (like commas, periods, exclamation points, question marks, ect.), or it can mean a sudden speciation. Diction like this that has two differnt meanings makes the reader stop to think about the reading in more depth. Another style that I noticed was the syntax. Syntax is like repetition of words or how long sentences are. An example of this in the column T.Y. Hilton is good player, great dad says "You don't have to be a Colts fan. You don't have to be a football fan. You just have to be a fan of good dads and good men."(Krista Ramsey). The syntax in this line is that the sentences are really short. With short sentences it makes you think about the importance of them a lot because there isn't much words that you have to evaluate, so you look at all the words that you have and think about them more. Short sentences hit you harder. Also the repetition of the words "fan" made you think about what the word fan means to you and to others and how it should really mean to you. Over all, all of Krista Ramsey writing styles makes you think about the importance of what she is writing more in depth.
Questions:
1. What motivated you the most to get you to write your column?
2. How do you get ideas for your next column?
3. What is the main point that you rae trying to get across throughout all of your columns?
